Royal College of Defence Studies team arrives

A 13-member team of the Royal College of Defence Studies (RCDS), UK led by Maj Gen Sebastian Roberts, arrived in Dhaka Sunday on a weeklong visit, reports UNB.
The aim of the RCDS tour is to examine, at first hand and from a strategic perspective, the current position and future prospects for the preservation and enhancement of the stability, security and prosperity of the regions in general and in particular Bangladesh.
RCDS membership comprises military officers, civil servants, diplomats, police officers and representatives from the private sector from a wide variety of nations and cultures.
All members are of colonel, brigadier or equivalent levels and have been selected to attend the course on the basis of their potential to progress to high office.
During the visit, the team members would call on the President, the chief of the Army Staff and the Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division.
They would visit the National Defence College and hold discussions on the contemporary international issues. As part of the tour, the team will also visit Chittagong Lt Col Phillip Spicer, Defence Adviser at the British High Commission in Dhaka said, "The defence and security cooperation between the UK and Bangladesh has always been warm and intense."
He also said this visit is important, as it would facilitate the team to examine the main factors affecting stability, security and prosperity and opportunities for greater international and regional cooperation.
"It will also provide a platform for explaining UK's foreign policy objectives, and imparting a UK view on how best to increase stability, security and prosperity," Phillip Spicer added.
