Ratanpur Steel Re-Rolling Mills Ltd (RSRM) will supply 10,000 metric tonnes of MS deformed bar for construction of proposed 5.2 km flyover from Muradpur to Lalkhan Bazar in Chittagong.
To this end, RSRM signed a deal Sunday with a Bangladesh-China joint venture company Max-Ranken JV, which earlier won the tender to build the flyover, at a city hotel.
Max Automobile Products Ltd, a subsidiary of Max Group, and Chinese company 'Ranken' formed the joint venture (JV) with the share ratio of 60:40 targeting the construction of this flyover.
Maksudur Rahman, Managing Director of RSRM, and Engineer Ghulam Mohammed Alomgir, authorized representative of the new JV, signed the deal on behalf of their respective companies.
Mr Alomgir is also managing director of Max Automobile Products Ltd and chairman and managing director of the Max Group.
The flyover is set to be named after late freedom fighter and former lawmaker Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury.
Under the deal, the RSRM became the exclusive provider of MS deformed bar for this flyover.
"They (RSRM) will supply the right quality products timely and we will take it exclusively from them," said Mr Alomgir.
"The agreement will help us finish construction of the flyover within the stipulated timeframe," he added.
Mr Maksudur Rahman said at the sideline of the signing ceremony, "Under the deal, we, both the sides, have committed to supply and take 10,000 metric tonnes of MS deformed bar, which is primarily assessed requirement for the 5.2 km flyover."
The flyover that is expected to ease the traffic jam in Chittagong will be the longest flyover in the port city, officials said.
They further said that RSRM, which was recently listed with the stock exchange, uses state-of-the-art technologies to manufacture their TMT rebars that are renowned across the world for higher strength, quality, ductility and toughness.
The steel manufacturer earlier contributed to construction of Kuril flyover and Hatirjheel projects, Mr Alomgir said.
