RU Arts Faculty beset with problems

RU, Sept 28: The Arts Faculty of Rajshahi University (RU) is beset with various problem including lack of classrooms,
teacher's chamber, Library, seminar room and other problems though it is the oldest faculty of the university.
The faculty was founded at the start of the university under the academic session 1953-54. It is mentioned that most of the departments under the Arts faculty are free from session jam.
Many scholars in the national and international levels graduated from this faculty. But this glorious faculty remains undeveloped. There is no remarkable development with the passage of time from its starting point. The students and the teachers are remaining in the state of negligence as alleged by some of the senior teachers of this faculty.
According to the faculty dean's official sources, there are now
10 departments including Bengali, English, History, Islamic History & Culture, Philosophy, Arabic Literature, Islamic Studies, Language (Persian, Sanskrit, and Urdu), Fine Arts, and Drama & Music under this faculty.
The folklore department shifted to Social Science faculty recently. For these ten departments under the Arts faculty there are two buildings as Shahidullah Kala Bhaban, Ismail Hossain Siraji Bhaban (half part) allocated from the university authority. The Shahidullah Kala Bhaban is the only building which is allocated for Arts Faculty. Though it is four storied but it has not adequate number of class rooms to the students and teachers rooms.
In spite of a part of the Ismail Hossain Siraji Bhaban (two
storied and under construction) allocated for the Arts faculty it is inadequate for the accommodation considering to the huge amount of the students and teachers ratio.
