RU campus: An idyllic landscape

RU Correspondent RAJSHAHI UNIVERSITY, Feb 19: The Rajshahi University of the northern region, a name of glorious heritage of research, education and culture, is situated at a beautiful place called Motihar Chhattar. The pleasant campus of this varsity, as a spot of natural beauty, attracts every visitor who came to visit the campus. In 1953, RU launched its journey at the premises of present Rajshahi Government College. Later, in 1961 all the academic and administrative activities shifted to the present campus of the university. This campus with its idyllic appearance is popularly known as Motihar Sobuz (green motihar) chhatter. It is an excellent combination of modern art and architecture. The self-contained lifestyle of the campus is entirely uniform. All the academic buildings of the university are constructed in a planned way. The main road of university the campus, in front of Shahidullah arts building, popularly known as Paris Road is beautified with rows of trees on both sides and the aligned trees are as old as the university itself. This road marks the residence of university vice chancellor. Rows of beautiful plants and the delightful environment with flower garden around is an additional attraction. On the eastern side of Shahidullah arts building is the large academic building of the campus surrounded by rows of trees. The western and southern lanes of library are draped with rows of mahua (butter tree) and debdharu (mast tree). In a grave in front of RU main administrative building confined with a rounded fence, the renowned scholar, former proctor of the university Dr. Shamsuzzoha who was laid to eternal rest in 1969. Another well-known building of the university which meets the demand of guests, teachers and officials is Zuberee Bhavan at the westside of the campus. Each lane and by lane around here is beautified with various kinds of trees like mohua, debdharu, mango, lemon, cocunt, zarul, raintree, mahoegani, kamini and shishu trees. As a neat and tidy residential area, the campus is simply beautiful to look at.
