RAJSHAHI UNIVERSITY, June 02: Rajshahi University (RU) students do not spend time on the subject-oriented studies in the RU Central Library, rather engage themselves in the government job-oriented studies.
Students think that they will nothing good through subject-based studies as the subject-based job sector is very few in the country.
Moreover, one of other reasons for not doing subject-wise studies is that teachers are not able to show us our dreams. Even many teachers say a student's talent will be proved if he passes the BCS examination. To become university officials, teachers, and vice-chancellors, leaders have to lick their feet.
The students also said that RU is the centre of freedom of thought and free knowledge. But a few days ago, 'Confidence' BCS coaching centre accorded a reception with the 41st BCS cadre. There, they gave the reception by renting the Kazi Nazrul Islam auditorium of the university. This proves that the university authorities are promoting BCS.
Sayem Hossain, a student of the Department of Law and Land Administration, said, "RU teachers are not able to show us what kind of hope our future will be or whether we can reach a good place by studying subject-wise subjects."
"Moreover, our parents, family and society do not value any job other than government jobs."
Ayesha Siddika, a master's student in the Bengali department, said, "Everyone looks for employment at the end of their academic career. I am no exception to him. Therefore, to move in the future, the job centre must be studied."
Sadiqul Islam Sagar, associate professor of the law department, said that RU is the idea of doing something new. But apart from that, students are studying only for government jobs. They really lack knowledge. Our teachers should encourage them by informing them well about subject-wise job information.
RU Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Sultan Ul Islam said the structure of the university is not BCS-centric. They will read job-focused, no problem. But, they should also devote time to academic studies. We want our university students to achieve good positions in different sectors of the country and internationally. Regarding the BCS-based coaching on the campus, he said, "We spoke to them last week. We won't rent any campus shops for BCS-oriented studies.
