RU syndicate approves probe report that found mass corruption in 2001-2008

RAJSHAHI UNIVERSITY, July 21: The Rajshahi University (RU) syndicate Monday approved an investigation report that found mass corruption and irregularities in different fields of the university including recruitment, implementation of educational programmes and projects of planning and development and engineering departments involving about Tk 232.2 million from 2001 to 2008.
The probe report prepared by a four-member team headed by Institute of Education and Research director Md Entajul Haque held two former vice chancellors of the university Faisul Islam Faruki and M Altaf Hossain and two former pro-vice chancellors Shahadat Hossain Mondol and Mamnunul Keramat responsible for corruption.
The other responsible persons are RU planning and development department Director M Lutfar Rahman, Chief Engineer Abdur Rahim, legal cell Assistant Registrar M Tajul Islam Khan and the then project director of PDG-in IT Khwaza Zakaria Ahmed Chisti.
RU syndicate members Prof Chowdhury Zulfikar Matin and Advocate Zillur Rahman, and Prof Dr M Mahbubur Rahman, director of Institute of Bangladesh Studies, were other members of the investigation team.
The probe report, which was submitted to the RU syndicate Sunday, was accepted unanimously Monday.
Vice-Chancellor Abdus Sobhan said: "We will send the report to the education ministry for necessary action.
Meanwhile, former RU VC Faisul Islam Faruki told the FE the allegations of irregularities against him are not true, while former Pro-VC Shahadat Hossain Mondol denied all allegations of the probe body.
