RU teachers condemn killing of professor Shafiul Islam

RAJSHAHI UNIVERSITY, Dec 31: The teachers of the Rajshahi University (RU) organised a human chain programme protesting the killing of Prof. AKM Shafiul Islam Lilon, a teacher of sociology department.
On Tuesday at 11.30am teachers under the banner of RU Teachers Association (RUTA) demanded the arrest and exemplary punishment of the killers of Prof Lilon from a human chain in front of university senate building.
In the programme RUTA general secretary Dr. Pranab Kumar Pande, Prof. Shamsul Alam Sarker of applied mathematics department and Dr. Zahidul Hasan of geography & environment department spoke while RUTA treasurer Prof. Habibur Rahman presided the programme.
"We have to transform our grief over Shafiul's murder into strength. We are demanding exemplary punishment for the murderers," the teachers said.
It is noted that on November 15, unknown assailants hacked AKM Shafiul Islam 48, to death near his house in Choddopai area adjacent to the campus.
