Ruling on Zia Trust case today

Wednesday, 3 February 2010

A High Court (HC) Bench has set today (Wednesday) for an order on petitions filed by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and her son Tarique Rahman to stay proceedings of Zia Orphanage Trust case.
The Bench of Justice Md Abdul Wahhab Miah and Justice Md Abdur Razzaque set the date Tuesday, reports bdnews24.com.
Meanwhile, a trial court has set March 3 for framing charges in the graft case.
The case, filed with the Ramna police station on July 3, 2008, accuses Khaleda Zia, Tarique Rahman and four others of embezzling more than Tk 20 million from Zia Orphanage Trust, which allegedly exists only on paper.
The charge sheet was submitted on August 5 that year.
Other persons who were accused, include late president Ziaur Rahman's nephew Mominur Rahman, former bureaucrat Dr Kamaludddin Siddiqui and former BNP lawmaker Quazi Salimul Haq.
The Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court took cognisance of the case last September.
Khaleda Zia, Leader of the Opposition and two-time former prime minister, and Tarique Rahman, senior vice-chairman of the BNP, have both received bail in the case.
Tarique Rahman is currently receiving medical treatment in the UK.
