Ruling party uses parliament to smear opposition: BNP
Saturday, 31 October 2009
The ruling party has transformed parliament into a place to smear the reputation of the opposition party, the BNP secretary general alleged Friday, reports bdnews24.com.
The government is inventing stories against Ziaur Rahman, Khaleda Zia and their family and running a smear campaign against the opposition, Mr Khandaker Delwar Hossain said, reacting to the remarks of Awami League lawmaker Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim.
On Thursday, Mr Selim alleged in the parliament that Khaleda Zia was involved in the August 21, 2004 grenade attack and the "conspiracy" which led to last week's bomb attack on ruling party lawmaker Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh.
"The false, fabricated remarks of the ruling party lawmaker proves that the government is involved in a deep conspiracy to destroy BNP," mentioned Mr Delwar.
He said the stories were being told to divert the focus of people from the failure of the government.
Blaming the government directly for an ineffective parliament, he said, "Today it has become clear to the people why BNP is not going to parliament."
"They never believed in democracy. They snatched the freedom of speech through BAKSAL (one-party rule in 1975).
He urged the government to leave the way of repression and also offered assistance.
