FE Report
The policymakers of Rupali Bank Ltd (RBL) Wednesday emphasised focusing more on SME and agriculture loans and starting drive to recover default loans to make the bank profitable.
They said these at a programme titled 'Business progress 2010 of the zonal, corporate and AD branches of RBL'.
RBL Chairman Dr Ahmed Al-Kabir was the chief guest of the function, where its directors were present as special guests. The bank's managing director M Farid Uddin presided over the meeting.
"We have to emphasise SME (small and medium enterprises) and agriculture loans for making the bank profitable and ensuring the socio-economic development of the country," said Dr Kabir.
He said RBL's 128 branches would be brought under online service by the end of this year. Besides, ATM booths would be opened at 50 branches, and 364 branches would be computerised by 2011.
"We will make RBL one of the leading banks of the country through all necessary steps," he added.
M Farid Uddin urged the zonal heads and branch mangers to be more active in recovering default loans. "You need not seek assurance from the head office, you just follow the law and take action against the defaulters," he told them.
"We have to give adequate loans to the people running various enterprises profitably, if they want," he added.
All the RBL high officials proposed to fix time duration for the branch managers to recover loans and fix target to distribute loans. They also pledged to make all the branches of RBL profitable by implementing the recommendations of the meeting.
The state-owned bank now has 492 branches, where over 4,000 people are employed.
