MAGURA, Apr 1: Demand for Open Market Sale (OMS) of rice by rural people in Magura is going unheeded.
Earlier OMS programme was run in Upazilla level as well as district town. But for several years the program is being run only in district town. Consequently rural people are suffering extremely.
The district food office sources said, OMS programme was started in the district from February 2. Under the programme everyone is allowed to purchase 5 kg rice per day at Tk 24 per kg. When contacted Magura sadar Upazila food controller, Abdul Kadir admitted OMS programme is confined now only to municipality area .But government is thinking to run the programme in upazila level too.
