Rush in trains and launches

Trains and launches leaving Dhaka are crowded with people rushing back home on the last working day before the Eid-ul Azha holidays. The river-terminal in Dhaka city was overflowing with thousands of people on Wednesday morning.
The Kamalapur Railway Station was less crowded though. The three-day Eid-ul Azha holiday begins on Sept 24 (Thursday). A huge rush has begun after office hours on Wednesday. Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority’s Traffic Inspector Syed Mahfuzur Rahman said that rush at the river terminal was huge early in the morning, but it dropped as the day passes. “But the rush will increase again in the afternoon,” he added. A total of 20 vessels left Dhaka for different destinations in the southern part of Bangladesh until 10am.
Meanwhile, the crowd at Kamalapur Railway Station was relatively normal compared to the rush ahead of Eid holidays. But desperate holiday travellers were found riding atop trains at the Airport Railway Station.
All of the trains left Dhaka on schedule except for the Rajshahi-bound Dhumketu Express, which was delayed by three hours. “The train was delayed due to huge rush,” said Station Master Sheetangshu Chakravarty, according to a news agency.
