Russia keen to invest in Bangladesh

CHITTAGONG, July 23: Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) board of directors exchanged views with the outgoing Indian Assistant High Commissioner (HC) Subrata Bhattacharjee and Russian Consul General Oleg N Evdiv at the Chamber House Wednesday.
They discussed matters relating to the business activities, mutual cooperation and ongoing global recession.
Speaking on the occasion, CCCI president MA Latif, MP, recalled with gratitude the whole-hearted cooperation of the Assistant High Commissioner of India during his long stay in Chittagong.
While reciprocating his sentiments, the Indian Assistant HC said, allout cooperation as well as hospitality of the CCCI apex trade body of the region was worth mentioning and remembering for ever.
Russian Consul General said, trade-relations between Bangladesh and Russia was increasing gradually and his country was eager to invest in Bangladesh.
Meanwhile newly elected executive committee of Khatunganj Trade and Industry Association (KTIA) in a meeting held Thursday called upon the business community to work unitedly for restoring the business tradition of Khatunganj area which was known as business hub of the country.
President of KTIA Mahbubul Alam presided over the meeting while General Secretary Syed Sagir Ahmad, Vice presidents Abul Bashar Chowdhury, Shafique Uddin, Abdus Salam, members Nurul Alam, Jamal Hossain, among others spoke on the occasion.
Mahbubul Alam reminded businessmen of their accountability to the country, nation as well as the masses and called upon them to make the desired goods available to the people at a justified rate of profit abandoning the idea of earning excess profit. He also called for working unitedly for bringing dynamism in the activities of Chittagong Port.
The speakers underscored the need for strengthening the bond of unity among the members of the business community with a view to establishing business friendly atmosphere for the greater interest of the people.
