Russian-born Dzalamidze allowed to play Wimbledon

Moscow-born Natela Dzalamidze will be able to compete at this year's championships at Wimbledon despite a ban on Russian and Belarusian players after she changed her nationality to represent Georgia, reports Reuters.
The 29-year-old is listed on Wimbledon's entry list for women's doubles as being from Georgia, where she is set to pair with Serbian Alexandra Krunic. Her nationality is Georgian on the WTA Tour website.
In April, the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) banned Russian and Belarusian players from competing at Wimbledon due to the invasion of Ukraine, which Moscow calls a "special military operation". Belarus has been a major staging area for the invasion. The AELTC stated that it has no involvement in changing the nationalities of the players.
"The nationality of the player, which they define as the flag at professional events, is an agreed process that is governed by tourism and the ITF," an AELTC spokesperson told Reuters in an email.
The WTA and ITF did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Players from Russia and Belarus have been stripped of their ranking points by the ATP and WTA Tours over their decision to exclude players from Russia and Belarus for the grasscourt Grand Slam starting June 27.
Earlier this month, the United States Tennis Association said Russian and Belarusian players would be allowed to compete under neutral flags at this year's US Open.
