Visiting South Africa clinched the three-match Warid ODI Series 2-0 with one more match in hand as they crushed hosts Bangladesh by seven wickets in the 2nd ODI at the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium (SBNS) in the city Wednesday, reports UNB.
After bowling out Bangladesh for a moderate 173 in 48.2 overs, the tourists lost 3 wickets for 60, but thanks to a 4th wicket stand of 119 runs between AB de Villiers and Jean Paul Duminy, whose patient knocks enabled South Africa to score 179 for 3 in 48.1 overs.
De Villiers notched his 13th ODI fifty to top score with an unbeaten 69 off 112 balls with the help of two fours and a six. Number five JP Duminy was the other not out batsman with 49 off 93 balls with one four.
Defending a poor target Bangladesh pacer Mashrafe Bin Mortaza took the first wicket trapping opener Harschelle Gibbs Lbw for 3 in the fifth over when the team scored 13.
Then left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak Raj made the 2nd break through sending back one down Hashim Amla for 16. He was caught and bowled. Then captain Smith, whose unbeaten 103 steered the visitors on their first ODI win in Chittagong, also fell victim of Razzak as the team totalled 60 after 16.4 overs.
