A visiting business delegation from South Africa met with the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) in the capital on Wednesday.
The businessmen expressed interest in investing in Bangladesh's jewellery sector, citing its "huge potential", said a BAJUS press release.
The press release also noted the possibility of Bangladesh investing in South Africa to strengthen trade relations between the two countries further.
Nokuthula Noki Ndlove, a member of the South African delegation, said Bangladesh, as a developing nation, offers significant investment opportunities in its jewellery sector.
She added that proper investment could drive the industry's progress.
BAJUS Vice-President Masudur Rahman called attention to the steady growth of Bangladesh's jewellery sector and invited the South African delegation to invest in it.
Pawan Kumar Agarwal, an executive committee member of the jewellers' association, pointed out the rising demand for diamond-studded ornaments in the country. However, he noted the lack of large-scale diamond-cutting facilities.
Mr Agarwal urged the South African delegation to consider investing in establishing diamond-cutting factories, given the sector's huge potential.
