S Arabia will continue to recruit local workers

FE Report | Tuesday, 15 July 2008

The Saudi government will continue to recruit Bangladeshi workers and there is no complaint against them excepting some minor cases of violation of rules.

This was stated by Saudi Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr Abdullah Bin Nasir Albasir while addressing newsmen at the Saudi Embassy on Monday.

"Some 1.7 million Bangladeshi workers are employed in Saudi Arabia, who are contributing largely to the development of Saudi Arabia. Only a few people created troubles and the matter was taken up with the Bangladesh government," he said.

He said recruiting agencies here recruit Bangladeshi workers at low pay and the Saudi companies have nothing to do with it. It is better to take up the matter with local recruiting agencies, he added replying to a question.

The ambassador, who took over the charge nearly a month ago, invited the press to brief on the forthcoming international dialogue of followers of divine religions in Madrid on July 16-18. Saudi King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud will inaugurate the conference, which will be participated by scholars and representatives of all religions.

Ambassador Abdullah Bin Nasir Albasir said the matter of a failed Rupali Bank deal will not affect the historic relationship between the two countries. A person was involved, not the Saudi government or state, he said.

About the Madrid conference, he said, the initiative of the custodian of the two holy mosques aims at making human relations between the people of different religions, cultures and faiths for spreading peace, love and harmony.

He said the dialogue is also aimed at establishing peace, security, stability and human development globally.

Responding to the call of the Saudi King for the dialogue, non-governmental international organisations, including the Muslim World League and Rabeta Al Alam Islami, are organising the conference.

Scholars from various faiths will be invited to the dialogue to discuss matters relating to human society, international cooperation, human rights, peace, security and coexistence in the world.

Asked about the Saudi King's visit to Bangladesh, the Ambassador said the date has not yet been fixed. It will be decided through diplomatic channels of the two countries.

On recognition of Kosovo's independence, he said the matter will be decided at the OIC (Organisation of Islamic Conference) level.
