S Korea bans imports of products containing Chinese milk

SEOUL, Sept 25 (AFP): South Korea has banned the import of all products containing Chinese powdered milk after discovering the harmful chemical melamine in some snacks, officials said today.
The Korea Food and Drug Administration said in a statement the ban took effect immediately after it found melamine in Chinese-made "Misarang Custard" cakes and "Milk Rusk" biscuits.
The inspection began after China said the industrial chemical melamine, largely used for making plastics, was found in infant milk formula whch has sickened nearly 53,000 children and killed four.
