SAARC chamber for pvt sector-led economic integration of region

The SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SAARC CCI) Sunday adopted a number of resolutions, including acceleration of the process of economic integration of the region led by the private sector.
It also suggested the public sector should be sensitised through knowledge-based national policies and harmonisation of business governance, regulatory frameworks to help reduce poverty by increasing economic activities.
The resolutions were unanimously adopted after the 49th Executive Committee Meeting of the SAARC CCI and a Roundtable on SAFTA (South Asian Free Trade Arrangement), held from April 20 to April 21 at Katmandu in Nepal with President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) & SAARC CCI Annisul Huq in the chair.
The business leaders of SAARC member countries along with members of the Executive Committee and General Assembly attended this meeting, said a press release issued by the FBCCI Dhaka office.
Dr Sheel Kant Sharma, Secretary General of SAARC, FBCCI directors Md Hasen Ali (EC Member of SAARC CCI), Mohan-imad Jalal Uddin, Bijoy Kumar Kejriwal, Mahabub Islam Runu (GA members of SAARC CCI) and Mr Shafquat Haider were also present on the occasion, it said.
The Private Sector of South Asia at the Roundtable on SAFTA - a precursor to 16th SAARC Summit -had extensive discussions on various issues coming in the way of integration of economies of South Asian countries, the FBCCI release added.
They also resolved to send the recommendations for the 16th SAARC Summit scheduled to be held in Bhutan on April 28, 2010.
