Sunday, 30 November 2014

Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali said on Saturday the Transport Ministers of the Saarc countries would meet in the next three months to finalise the Saarc Motor Vehicles Agreement and Saarc Regional Railways Agreement, reports UNB.
"Bangladesh will play active role in signing the two deals as soon as possible. I hope the two agreements will be signed soon in cooperation with all member countries," he told a press briefing at his Secretariat over the outcome of the 18th Saarc Summit.
Mahmood Ali further said: "The two agreements were supposed to be signed at the summit but it didn't happen due to differences of opinions among the Saarc leaders."
"Bangladesh played an active role so that the member countries could reach a consensus over signing the deals but couldn't achieve success due to difference of opinions among the member countries. The Saarc Framework Agreement on Energy Cooperation was signed at the summit, which would remain as a milestone of cooperation and development in the region," he said.
Terming the summit a success, the Foreign Minister said some proposals, including Migration, Blue Economy and post-2015 Development Agenda, put forward by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina were incorporated in the Summit Declaration.
In her speech in the summit, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina stressed increasing connectivity among the Saarc countries and their people and raising cooperation among them for counterterrorism, he said.
