Saarc School Debate Championship begins

Bangladesh national round of the first SAARC School Debate Championship-2008 began at Dhaka University (DU) Sunday with the topic, 'tackling corruption: transforming lives'.
Former Adviser Sultana Kamal attended the opening session of the national round as the chief guest while DU Pro-Vice Chancellor AFM Yusuf Haider inaugurated the function.
DUDS Chief Moderator Syed Manzoorul Islam made the address of welcome at the session with its President Mofazzal Hossain Sumon in the chair.
A total of 27 renowned local schools are participating in the four-day national round.
The champion school will compete with the national champions of other member countries of SAARC at the final round to be held in New Delhi next month.
DU Debating Society (DUDS) has organised the national round of the championship for Bangladesh in cooperation with London Metropolitan University, UK and Centre for Development Communication (CDC) while the Rajib Gandhi Foundation of India will organise the final round.
