Safe maritime transports to accelerate economy: Inu

Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu has said that if the maritime transports were made safe and reliable, the economy would be better off. The minister was speaking at a rally at BIWTA Terminal at Sadarghat in the city. The rally demanded that May 23 be declared as National Maritime Safety Day. Inu told the rally that he would take up the issue at the cabinet level. He further said the government was taking up the issues of unfit water vessels, inefficient manpower, overloading and ignoring off cautionary signals, seriously. The information minister said the waterways should be freed off illegal occupation, pollution and needed to be dredged properly, according to BSS.
