Safety issues alongside agriculture production stressed

DUMURIA, Khulna, Dec 15 (BSS): State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Narayan Chandra Chanda Monday laid emphasis on addressing the issues of food safety like use of fertiliser alongside increased agricultural production.
Inaugurating a three day long Agriculture and Technology Fair-2014 at Dumuria Upazila in Khulna he said the farmers must be motivated to minimise the dependence on chemical fertiliser alone and use environment and health friendly composts.
''The use of fertiliser should be balanced," he told the function referring to the impact on excessive use of fertilisers on fishers while he addressed the function at the Shaheed Zobaed Ali Auditorium.
The state minister said the government continued to provide subsidy in the sector to boost the production but at the same time more researches should be carried out to address the safety issues related to the modes of production.
Dumuria Upazila Parisad chairman Md. Khan Ali Monsur addressed the function as special guest while UNO Md. Shamsuddouza in the chair.
The programme also addressed, among others, by Upazila Agriculture Officer Nazrul Islam, Upazila Muktijoddha Commander Nurul Islam Manik and Abu Hanif Morol, a farmer who achieved Bangabandhu National Agriculture award.
Later, Chanda visited at the stall. A total of 20 stall have been set up in the fair.
