SAFF U-16 Championship kicks off Sunday

SYLHET: The third session of the SAFF U-16 Championship kicks off Sunday at Sylhet Stadium in Sylhet. Defending champions India will take on Sri Lanka in the meet opener at 5pm.  Hosts Bangladesh will start their South Asian Football Federation Under-16 Championship campaign facing Sri Lanka at 5pm on August 11. Six nations including hosts Bangladesh, Indian, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and the Maldives will compete in the 10-day continental meet. Bangladesh was put in Group-A along with India and Sri Lanka while Group-B comprises Nepal, the Maldives and Afghanistan. In the remaining group match, Bangladesh will play defending champions India on August 13 also at 5pm at the same venue.  On completion of the group matches, top two teams of the each group will play in the semifinal on August 16 while the final match will be held on August 18.
Bangladesh finished 4th and 3rd respectively in the last two sessions held in Nepal, according to a news agency--------Aminul.
