Sagar-Runi murder investigator at HC

The officer investigating the murder of journalist couple Sagar and Runi has turned up to appear before the High Court (HC) to update it about the probe. ASP Jafar Ullah of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) came to the HC around 10:30am on Wednesday, said deputy attorney general Mamunur Rashid. The bench of Justice Md Shawkat Hossain and Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam will hear the investigation officer's statement around 2pm, he said. “The hearing has been scheduled at noon as the case documents are yet to reach.” On February 18, the bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Mohammad Ullah summoned the investigation officer (IO) after three suspects in the case filed bail petitions. It had then asked the Director General of Rab to implement the order and get the investigator to report to the HC by March 5 with all updates in the case. On February 11 in 2012, Maasranga Television News Editor Sagar Sarowar and ATN Bangla Senior Reporter Meherun Runi were stabbed to death in their apartment at West Razabazar in Dhaka city. After the police failed to achieve a breakthrough in the case, the HC asked the Rab to take over the probe on April 14, 2012, according to bdnews24.com.
