Sagar-Runi murders still a mystery

Tuesday, 1 July 2014

It is simply unacceptable that no tangible progress could be made in the gruesome Sagar-Runi murders. Already long two and a half years have passed.
Shortly after the murders, the then Home Minister assured that the police would arrest the killers within 48 hours, but 30 months have passed without any breakthrough.
The horrific incident will not fade away from the minds of the common people. The government has failed to show its sincerity to solve this sensational case. Sagar and Runi were murdered in their own flat on February 11, 2012 in mysterious circumstances.
Now a Dhaka court has asked the Rapid Action Battalion to submit a probe report by August 13, 2014. Many stories are coming up about the murders and the people are confused. But it seems a deep-rooted conspiracy had taken place. The truth can not be suppressed for long; it will come out some day.
The common people and the near and dear ones of the Sagar-Runi family expect the truth to be unveiled and the perpetrators be prosecuted. The government needs to move quickly with this sensational murder case. If such cases go unresolved, the common people will lose their confidence on rule of law.
