Sagoldi regulator to help boost Aman crops cultivation in Nagarkanda

A Correspondent brFARIDPUR, Sept 4 The construction work of Sagoldi regulator on Sagoldi Khal (canal) at Sagoldi village under Nagarkanda upazila of Faridpur is going on in full swing.brUnder FGR (Faridpur, Rajbari and Gopalganj) integrated area development project of BADC (Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation) about 10 thousand acres of agricultural land of two unions of Nagarkanda upazila will benefit by irrigation facility in the dry season, increasing production of Aman crops.brAfter a field-level survey and analysis led by Md. Anwar Hossain, Executive Engineer of FGR project BADC Faridpur region, it was proposed to built a regulator to benefit production of Aman crops on about 10 thousand acres of land at Sagoldi and Majhardia unions of Nagarkanda upazila in Faridpur district. brStarting in early 2008, 90 percent work of the regulator has been completed. Farmers of the area will achieve good agricultural production from the coming reason after completion of the work.brFarmers of the area said, they had been urging construction of the regulator for a long time. When the regulator would be operational, the inhabitants of the area would have sufficient amount of water in Sagoldi canal in the dry season which will also help them to debark jute fibre as well as boost cooperative fish cultivation in five natural water bodies (Bils) connected with the cannel.brMd. Anwar Hossain, Executive Engineer of FGR project of BADC for Faridpur region said that the construction cost of 75 feet long one-vent regulator would cost Tk 15 lakhs only. He also added that BADC was implementing this project considering the multiple developments for the people of the area.
