CHITTAGONG, Dec 20: Home Minister Sahara Khatun today inaugurated the newly constructed Chittagong Central Jail that has been given a new look through expansion and modernization recently at a cost of Tk 580 million. She asked the jail super and other officials and wardens to treat the prisoners from humanitarian outlook. "The modern concept of prison is that it is the correction centre or rehabilitation centre. We are running the prisons on the principles of that outlook," she said. She was addressing the inauguration ceremony of the new-look central jail in the city this afternoon as chief guest. Presided over by IG (Prisons) Brigadier General (retired) Ashraful Islam Khan, the function was addressed by local MP Nurul Islam B Sc and Deputy Commissioner Foyez Ahmed. Mayor of Chittagong City Corporation M Manjur Alam and former City Mayor and President of Chittagong City Awami League ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury were present on the occasion. In her address Advocate Sahara Khatun also accused the leader of the opposition and BNP chief Khaleda Zia of creating anarchy in the country and harbouring the anti-liberation forces by opposing trial of the war criminals. She alleged that BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia is hatching conspiracy in the country. Being obsessed with a new dream to reap benefits she has been creating anarchy in the country, she said. "All your attempts to foil trial of the war criminals are sure to fail because the government has initiated the trial of those anti-liberation forces according to the wishes and demand of the people. Mind it, Khaleda Zia, you will never succeed in protecting them. The nation will complete the trial at any cost on the soil of Bangladesh," she said. "In addition, we have started trial of the corrupt people of the country. But vested quarters are opposing trial of the corrupt people. They are trying to create lawlessness and anarchy to save them," she added.
