NILPHAMARI, June 15: The government has undertaken a project to rehabilitate Saidpur-Chilahati and Chilahati to zero point section broad gauge railway track.
Chilahati-Haldibari (India) segment of the railway comprises 8.10 kilometre in Bangladesh portion and 3.24 km in Indian portion.
The present condition of the rail route is very miserable, so the trains do not cross maximum speed of 20 km per hour.
Railway sources said under the project tender has been invited to rehabilitate the rail line, station platforms, signaling system of all the rail stations from Saidpur to Zero Point of Bangladesh and requisite infrastructure at Chilahati Rail Station to enable all inter city trains to ply from there.
Railway sources added the rehabilitation would pave the way to enable creating connectivity among India, Nepal and Bhutan through Broad Gauge rail line that stretches up to Mongla Port.
Sources added reopening of multinational Chilahati Land Port using the railway route which is a long standing demand of the region is to be materialised.
