Saidpur Railway Workshop needs urgent renovation

NILPHAMARI, June 8: Age old workshop houses of Saidpur Railway Workshop which has ended its lifespan long ago need urgent renovation. Sources said roofs of most of the workshop houses are in a dilapidated condition and trickles down rain water that damages valuable machinery. The workshop built on 110 hactares of land in 1870 has 22 big houses to accommodate 730 big machines. But most of the machinery ended their lifespan.

Sources added passenger coaches and wagons of metre-gauge and broad-gauge raillines were used to be made in this workshop besides making of different kinds of spare parts. Sources further said earlier there were 12000 workers in this renowned workshop. But at present there are only 3177 workers and employees.
