Ending all speculations the CPA has finally awarded the contract for handling containers at the Chittagong Container Terminal (CCT) to Saif Powertech.
Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) chairman Commodore RU Ahmed said they have awarded the contract to Saif PT according to the recommendations of the tender evaluation committee (TEC).
"We have already issued the 'notification award' to Saif Powertech and have asked them to prepare themselves for signing the new contract by the first week of December," the CPA chairman said.
Commodore Ahmed also said Saif PT will start working under the new contract from the second week of December.
"The tender evaluation committee examined all relevant papers of Saif PT, the lowest among seven bidders, and did not find any flaw. So we offered the contract to them," Ahmed said.
On Nov 5, the last date of dropping tenders, seven operators submitted quotations for handling containers at the CCT.
Saif Powertech offered to handle 900,000 TEU (twenty equivalent units) containers in a period of 36 months for Tk 139.5 million (Tk 13 crore 95 lakh) at the handling charge of Tk 155 per container. It was the lowest ever rate quoted for container handling at the CCT.
