Friday, 15 May 2009

Deputy Leader of the House Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury today said the contributions of women in the struggle for the independence of the country should be recognised and respected with due honour, reports BSS.
"Distortion of the history of the War of Liberation in different times is a clear reflection of meanness," she said while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion on "Role of Women in Independence" in the city.
Department of Women Affairs organised the discussion, chaired by its director general Rowshan Ara Begum.
Women and Children Affairs Secretary Rokeya Sultana and Chairperson of Jatiya Mohila Sangstha Momtaj Begum, among others, spoke on the occasion.
Sajeda Chowdhury said the sacrifices of people in the War of Liberation must be documented.
"Women served food and shelters to freedom fighters," she said adding that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had shown his highest respect and affection for women.
The deputy leader also handed over crests to three woman freedom fighters - Surja Begum, Achia Begum and Momtaj Begum.
