Sajeda for restoration of '72 constitution without delay

Sunday, 20 December 2009

FARIDPUR, Dec 19 (BSS): Deputy Leader of the Jatiya Sangsad and acting president of Bangladesh Awami League Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury today said the present government was firm to restore the 1972 constitution, which was distorted several times by the successive post-1975 rulers giving rise to autocracy and militancy in the country.
She said this while addressing as the chief guest a big public meeting in front of Krisnapur High School under Nagarkanda Upazilla of the district. "The complete restoration of 1972 constitution framed by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Shaikh Mujibur Rahman would help give democracy a truly institutional shape," she said adding that there was no room for militancy, autocracy and fanaticism in the country.
Criticising former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, Sajeda Chowdhury said that her government in the past had patronised religious militancy and the madrasahs across the country became 'training centres for the killers'.
"There is no scope for religious militancy in Bangladesh and the present government is determined to root our such elements from the soil of this country," she said.
The meeting presided over by local Awami League leader Abul Hossain Khan was also addressed, among others, by Saleha Mosharraf MP, Saltha Upazila chairman Delwar Hossain Khan, Nagarkanda Upazilla chairman Maniruzzaman Sarder and Faridpur District Awami League Secretary Hasibul Hassan Lablu.
Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury said that after the execution of the killers of Bangabandhu, all such elements involved in the jail killings would be tried as per law to stop the politics of killing on this soil once for all.
In an oblique reference to Begum Khaleda Zia, the Al acing chief said being the wife of a Freedom Fighter she formed her government with the war criminals which was most unfortunate and shameful experience for the whole nation.
"The war criminals will also be tried and the process has already started in this regard," she told the crowd.
