A lower court in the Indian state of Meghalaya on Friday granted detained BNP joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed in a case filed for trespassing. Shillong District and Sessions Judge Court granted the BNP leader bail at about 4:00pm (local time) after hearing the charge sheet local police farmed against him, BNP assistant office secretary Abdul Latif Jony told UNB. He said the court gave Salahuddin bail on condition that he will have to stay in Shillong and be present before the court once a week. Earlier on Wednesday, Shillong police pressed charges against the BNP leader in the case for intruding India. The charge sheet comes 23 days after the case was filed under the Foreigners Act of India. On May 29, the lower court denied him bail after a hearing on a petition filed by his wife Hasina Ahmed. The BNP joint secretary was picked up from a house in the city's Uttara on March 10 allegedly by unidentified men who introduced themselves as detectives. After remaining missing for around two months, Salahuddin was found in Shillong, the capital of northeastern Indian state of Meghalaya on May 11. He was arrested for entering India without any valid documents. Salahuddin is currently undergoing treatment at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGIHMS) under judicial custody.
