A lower court in the eastern Indian state of Meghalaya has granted BNP Joint Secretary General Salahuddin Ahmed bail in a case filed for trespass. Shillong District and Sessions Judge’s Court granted the detained BNP leader bail on Friday afternoon after hearing the charge sheet Shillong police farmed against him, BNP assistant office secretary Abdul Latif Jony said. He said the court passed the order at about 4:00pm (local time). It gave Salahuddin bail on condition that he will have to stay in Shillong and be present before the court once a week. Earlier on Wednesday, Shillong police pressed charges against the BNP leader in the case for intruding into India. The charge sheet came 23 days after the case was filed under the Foreigners Act of India. On May 29, the lower court denied him bail after a hearing on a petition filed by his wife Hasina Ahmed. After remaining missing for around two months, Salahuddin was found in Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya on May 11. He was arrested for entering India without any valid documents. Salahuddin is currently undergoing treatment at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGIHMS) under judicial custody, according to UNB.
