Salahuddin hopes Tarique will return by November

BNP to give green signal to its candidates for 200 seats this month

FE REPORT | Saturday, 25 October 2025

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is expected to return to the country by November, the party's standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed said on Friday.
"I hope our party's (BNP) acting chairman Tarique Rahman will return home by November," Mr. Salahuddin said while talking to newsmen at his residence in the city's Gulshan.
He, however, didn't mention any specific date of Tarique Rahman's return.
When asked, he said: "You will come to know the specific date very soon."
The BNP's acting chairman, who has been in exile in the UK, can contest the upcoming national elections from any parliamentary seat he wants, he mentioned.
Mr. Salahuddin also said BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia would take her own decision whether she would contest the election or not, considering her physical condition.
However, the party wants her to participate in the elections, he added.
Meanwhile, the party will give green signal to candidates of the BNP in 200 seats this month for the upcoming elections, he said.
Mr. Salahuddin said political discussions are underway with the National Citizen Party (NCP).
He, however, said they will have to wait more and see whether the BNP and NCP will join the alliance or not.
"There has been no formal discussion with the NCP about joining the alliance," he said.
