Salaries of President, PM, ministers, Speaker, MPs to be doubled

The salaries of the President, Prime Minster, ministers, the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, the Chief Justice, judges of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court and High Court judges, state ministers, the Leader of the Opposition, deputy leader of the opposition and the members of the Jatiya Sangsad (Parlaiment) will be doubled.
A month after the salaries of government employees were hiked, the Cabinet on Monday approved draft proposals to amend six different laws in this connection. The approval came at a weekly Cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Cabinet Secretary Md Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan briefed the reporers after the meeting held in the morning. He said draft proposals approved by the Cabinet today aim to increase the salaries of the President, the Prime Minster, ministers, lawmakers, the Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad, deputy speaker, Chief Justice, judges of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court and High Court judges, the state ministers, the Leader of the Oppisition in parliament, chief whip and the deputy leader of the opposition.
In order to increase their salaries, the Cabinet Division had prepared the proposal to amend six different laws in this connection, said Cabinet secretary. He said, according to the proposal the salary of the President will be raised to Tk120,000 from the present Tk 61,200, while the Prime Minister’s salary would be increased to Tk115,000 from the current Tk. 58,600.
Hre said the salary of each minister will be rised to Tk105,000 from the present Tk53,100, while each state minister’s salary will be increased to Tk92,000 from current Tk47,800. The salary of each deputy ministers will go up to Tk86,500 from present Tk45,150. The salary of every Member of the Parliament (MP) will jump to Tk55,000 from the current Tk.27,500, he added.
According to the proposals, salaries of the Speaker of the House, deputy speaker, Chief Justice, judges of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court and the High Court judges will also be nearly doubled.
