Wednesday, 19 December 2007

FE Report
With two days left for the Eid-ul-Azha celebrations, the city's cattle markets are abuzz with sacrificial animals but the sale has not yet gained momentum Tuesday.
Cattleheads from different parts of the country have been arriving in the markets in truck-loads throughout the day while the traders are expecting more to come in the next two days before the festival.
Buyers, however, were pretty thin at different cattle markets and most of them were observing the price situation on the day, according to the traders.
Experienced cattle traders hinted that the sale would gather momentum today (Wednesday) and peak on the eve of Eid day.
Akter Hossain Dewan, lessee of Golapbagh cattle market told the FE that the prices this year was higher compared to that of the previous year.
But a number of traders, however, differed and said that the prevailing prices were relatively lower this year in most of the makeshift markets.
In the capital, people living in apartments, flats or even in houses tends to purchase the sacrificial animals a day or two before Eid because of problems related to feeding, cleaning and nurturing.
