Salman denies any role in SEC affairs

FE Report | Sunday, 17 April 2011

FE Report
Beximco Group Vice-Chairman Salman F Rahman told the FE on Saturday that the comment of the probe committee on the recent share market scam about his support and lobbying for the appointment of the incumbent chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and re-appointment of its former member Mansur Alam was "completely baseless." The probe body's report mentioned the name of Salman F Rahman, along with that of another erstwhile key functionary of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) as being active in influencing the decisions of the securities regulator. The denial about peddling any influence over the appointment of some key persons of the SEC and also over its regulatory functions came following the probe body's report. Former president of DSE Mr Rakibur Rahman also categorically stated that he was in no way involved in supporting and lobbying for the incumbent SEC chairman. When asked by the FE, he said, "It is out of question that I had influenced in any way the activities of the SEC."
