Sammilita Parishad wins all posts in BGMEA polls

Sammilita Parishad panel, led by Abdus Salam Murshedy, won all the 27 posts of director in the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) election for the 2009-10 period, held Tuesday.
Salam received the highest number of 1564 out of total 2,427 votes cast. The number of total voter in BGMEA is 2,678.
In his initial reaction, Salam said he was taking the responsibility at a time when the whole world is under recession and his first task would be to sit with the government and chalk out an elaborate plan to help the sector survive in this crucial period.
The new directors will meet on March 7 to elect a president, first vice president, second vice president, vice president and vice president (finance) among themselves. It is a custom that panel leader becomes the president and senior most leader from Chittagong region the first vice president.
The senior most leader from Chittagong region is Nasir Uddin Chowdhury, who bagged 1438 votes.
The other candidates who won are Md Atiqul Islam (1542 votes), Md Siddiqur Rahman (1449 votes), Nahid Hasan (1444 votes), Faruque Hasan (1438 votes), Md Shafiul Islam (1427 votes), Khondokar Jamil Uddin (1399 votes), Md Liaqat Ali Chowdhury (1372 votes), Shahidullah Azim (1362 votes), Reaz-bin Mahmood (1358 votes), AM Chowdhury (1347 votes), Md Mashiul Azam (1342 votes), Md Kafiluddin Yousuf (1339 votes), Arshad Jamal (1331 votes), Jahid Akbar Chowdhury (1329 votes), Mohammed Musa (1319 votes), Kazi Zakir Hossain (1317 votes), Muhammad Ferhat Abbas (1305 votes), Mohammad Nasir (1299 votes), Badal Roy (1297 votes), Yesar Ahmed Khan (1284), Haroon-ar Rashid (1282), Khondokar Rafiqul Islam (1278), Hasanuzzaman Chowdhury (1265), Imrul Anwar Liton (1258), Shirajul Islam (1197), Shahadat Hossain Kiron (1077) and AM Mahbub Chowdhury (1070).
