RAJSHAHI, Mar 11 (UNB): Police indiscriminately charged batons to disperse activists of Sammilito Ulama Parishad (SUP), a platform of Islamic scholars who pelted stones at the law enforcers in their bid to bring out procession in the city this afternoon protesting against the government move to award equal rights to women on paternal property. Ulama Parishad consider that the move is against the holy Quran and 0Sunnah. At least 10 SUP activists were injured in police action. However, SUP activists regrouped and brought out a procession defying police obstruction in the city. Witnesses said SUP brought out a protest procession from Saheb Bazar after Jum'a prayers. As the procession reached Sonadighi Mosque intersection after parading important city streets, police swooped on it with clubs to disperse it, triggering a clash. A chase and counter chase followed and angry SUP activists pelted brickbats at the police who managed to disperse the processionists at Sonadighi Masjid Morh.
