Press council act
Sampadak Parishad demands issuing draft
FE REPORT | Sunday, 21 August 2022
Raising concern over an amendment to the Bangladesh Press Council Act-2022, the Sampadak Parishad has demanded that the draft be published on its website.
The call comes as a team, led by Sampadak Parishad president and Daily Star editor Mahfuz Anam, met Press Council chairman Justice Nizamul Huq recently.
Sampadak Parishad vice-president and Bhorer Kagoj editor Shyamol Dutta, and general secretary and Bonik Barta editor Dewan Hanif Mahmud, and press council member Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul were present.
During the meeting, Sampadak Parishad cited its right to see the draft law as a stakeholder. But the council expressed its unwillingness to disclose it.
Sampadak Parishad strongly believes that an amendment to this law be made public for opinions before its passage.
It demands that the draft be posted on the council's website for the stakeholders' opinions.
