A Dhaka court on Monday extended the bail of former Jubo League leader Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat until October 20 in a case filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on the charge of acquiring wealth beyond known income, reports BSS.
Judge Asad Md Asifuzzaman of Dhaka Special Judge Court-6 passed the order on Monday. The court also fixed October 20 as the date for next hearing.
The expelled Jubo League leader was present before the court. The defence pleaded for his permanent bail, while ACC opposed the plea. After hearing both the parties, the court passed the order.
Samrat was produced before the court from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital on August 22.
After holding hearing on the plea for bail filed by the defence, the court allowed it on Taka 10,000 bond. The court also set September 19 for holding hearing on charge framing in the case.
From March 31 to May 11 this year, Samrat was granted bail by the lower court in a total of four cases on health ground.
On May 18, the ACC filed an application in the High Court seeking cancellation of bail in a case filed against him for acquiring assets other than known income, saying that Samrat could not secure a bail because of the gravity of his offence.
