Samson's death condoled

Ministers, business leaders, bankers and different trade bodies have condoled the death of Chairman of Square Group Samson H Chowdhury.
In a condolence message, Finance Minister AMA Muhith expressed his deep shock and grief at the death of Samson H Chowdhury, chairman of the Square Group---country's leading business conglomerate.
Mentioning Chowdhury a pioneer in the field of the country's medicine industry, Mr. Muhith said the departed business tycoon had valuable contributions to the formulation of the country's drug policy in 1983.
"He is not only an industrialist but also one of the highest taxpayers," the minister said, adding that he had known the demised industrialist for more than 50 years.
In a separate message, Textile and Jute Minister Abdul Latif Siddque expressed deep shock at the demise of Samson H Chowdhury.
Citing his great contribution to the country's trade, industry and other arenas, the minister remembered the departed soul.
In another condolence message, Federation of the Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) condoled his death, saying that Samson H Chowdhury played a key role in achieving investment and promoting development in the country's health sector.
It termed him as one of the country's successful businessmen and its highest taxpayer. "We've lost an honest industrialist and the loss is irreparable," it added.
President of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) Asif Ibrahim in another message said board of directors of the chamber expressed shock at the sudden death of the industrialist.
He said Samson H Chowdhury led an exemplary life of hard work, dedication and honesty and established one of the largest business conglomerates of Bangladesh. "We pray for the salvation of the departed soul," the statement said.
President of Bangladesh Merchant Bankers Association (BMBA) Mohammad A Hafiz said he was the ideal character for many successful businessmen.
"May the almighty grant the members of his family enough strength and courage to bear the loss," he said.
In a press note, TIB executive director Dr. Iftekharuzzaman said the country's anti-corruption movement lost a dedicated and diligent comrade and guide in his death.
He said he had played an active role in the anti-corruption movement of TIB since its inception in 1996.
"Whenever any crisis appeared on the way of movement, his wise suggestions, guidance and assistance had inspired us to move forward," the TIB said.
Samson H Chowdhury had worked as chairman of the anti-corruption watchdog for two years since 2004.
Bangladesh Insurance Association (BIA) also condoled the death and expressed heartfelt sympathy for the members of the bereaved family.
Beximco Group Vice-Chairman Salman F Rahman, on behalf of the board of directors and all employees of the group, also expressed his deep shock at the death of Samson H Chowdhury.
In a condolence message, Mr Rahman said the death of Samson H Chowdhury is a loss not only for Square Group but also for the country's business community. The country has lost a great industrialist, he noted.
