Sand trader kidnapped

A sand trader was abducted by unknown miscreants at Bheramara upazila in Kushtia district on Tuesday. The victim was identified as Shafiqul Islam, alias Shafi Haji, 44, son of late Meher Ali, a resident of Baro Dag village under the upazila. Shafi’s cousin Abu Bakar Siddique, president of Bheramara upazila unit Awami League, said a gang of unidentified miscreants came in a microbus in the guise of members of Detective Branch (DB) of police and picked up Shafi at gunpoint from near Lalon Shah Bridge (West side) around 3:30am when he was busy with his business work. Being informed, police conducted separate drives for his rescue. Parvez Islam, officer-in-charge of Bheramara Police Station, confirmed the incident, according to UNB.
