FE Report
A sand trader and ex-leader of Swechchha Sebak League (SSL), a volunteer wing of the ruling Awami League, was killed in a bomb attack at Badda in the capital Thursday, police said.
The deceased was identified as Mamunur Rashid (34), former vice-president of SSL, DCC Ward-1 of Merul-Badda unit and a close relative of state minister for water resources Mahabubur Rahman.
Witnesses said nearly five
to six people hurled several cocktails at him at about 11am when he was on his way to Namapara area.
But family members of the victim blamed Mamun's business rival Alamgir-Jahangir group for the killing.
Locals rushed critically wounded Mamun to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where the attending doctors pronounced him dead.
Sub-Inspector (SI) of Badda Police Station Sheikh Saiful said the attackers first hurled cocktails at Mamun and then opened fire to confirm his death when Mamun reached Anandanagar Social welfare office of the area.
"The killing might have been sequel to long-running hostility. We're investigating the matter," the SI said.
