SANEI to foster networking in S Asia for development

The Steering Committee members of the South Asia Network of Economic Research Institutes (SANEI) agreed at a meeting in the city Saturday to strengthen networking among economic research institutions in the region for generation of knowledge to accelerate pace of development, reports UNB.
The meeting unanimously elected Professor Wahiduddin Mahmud of Dhaka University as the new Chair of the Steering Committee, according to a press release.
Established in June 1998, the vision of SANEI is to develop beneficial networking among research institutions in South Asia to foster networking between them and global institutions and experts, achieve research excellence and promote policy relevant and collaborative research.
SANEI is the regional partner of the Global Development Network and presently has 48 research institutes from the region as its members.
The SANEI Secretariat is located at the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies with its Director General Mustafa K Mujeri as the coordinator.
The meeting was participated by Mustafa K Mujeri and SANEI Coordinator, Ishrat Husain, dean and director, Institute of Business Administration, Pakistan, M Govinda Rao, director of National Institute of Public Finance and Policy, India, Rajiv Kumar, director and chief executive officer of Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations and Shanker Krishna Malla, executive director of Institute for Integrated Development Studies.
