Santoro, Spadea advance to ATP semi-finals

NEWPORT, Rhode Island, July 12(AFP): Second seed Fabrice Santoro of France advanced to the semi-finals of the 385,000-dollar ATP Hall of Fame Championship grass-court tournament with a straight-sets victory here Friday.

Santoro defeated Spain's Ivan Navarro 6-3, 7-6 (7/4) to book a Saturday date against American Vince Spadea for a berth in Sunday's final.

Spadea eliminated Austrian Alexander Peya 7-6 (7/3), 7-5, in Friday's only other singles match.

Saturday's other semi-final pits India wild card Prakash Amritraj, the son of retired star Vijay Amritraj, against Canadian seventh seed Frank Dancevic.

Aside from the matches, Saturday will feature induction ceremonies at the International Tennis Hall of Fame, where former French Open champion Michael Chang will be among those enshrined in the sporting shrine.
