Sapu, Wakkas get HC bail

The High Court here on Monday granted six months bail to Swechchhasebak Dal general secretary Mir Sharafat Ali Sapu and Hefajat leader Mufti Abu Wakkas in separate cases. An HC bench comprising Justice Naima Haider and Justice Zafar Ahmed passed the order following hearing on several writ petitions filed by their lawyers. Senior Lawyer Khandakar Mahbub Hossain stood for the Mufti Wakkas and Barrister Mahbub Uddin for Shapu while Deputy Attorney General Khandakar Diliruzzaman represented the state. The HC granted bail to Mir Sharafat Ali Sapu in four cases filed with New Market and Paltan Police Stations last year on charge of vandalism and attacking policemen. Swechchhsebak Dal general secretary Sharafat Ali Sapu was arrested from the city on November 14, 2013. Besides, Hefazat leader Mufti Wakkas secured six months bail in five cases, out of seven, filed in connection with May 5 violence during Hefajat rally at Motijheel last year. Detective Branch of police arrested him from the city’s Malibagh area on September 2, according to a news agency.
