Sardar Fazlul Karim to be laid to rest in Azimpur

Prof Sardar Fazlul Karim will be laid to rest beside his wife at Dhaka’s Azimpur graveyard, his family members say. The eminent scholar’s body was taken to his Dhanmondi residence on Sunday morning from Samarita Hospital. His mortal remains were taken to the Communist Party of Bangladesh office in the city’s Purana Paltan to allow admirers to pay respects. The body was then moved to the Bangla Academy premises. His namaj-e-janaza was held after the Zohr prayers at Dhaka University’s mosque, his brother-in-law Iqbal Hossain said. He will be laid to rest in Azimpur. The 89-year-old ‘Swadhinata Padak' and 'Bangla Academy Padak' awardee died early hours on Sunday due to multiple organ failure, doctors said. Known as ‘Sardar Sir’ to his acquaintances, Karim is also famous for his many scholarly books on philosophy and translations of Plato, Aristotle, Rousseau and Engels, according to bdnews24.com.
